Recently i started supporting a Child Headed Household in Uganda. Betty is 16 and is currently the head of the Household. Betty has a child who is 3 months old.
She also is main care giver to her 3 Siblings Peter (17), Isaac (12) and Namara (11) whom are all attending school. Since Betty has given birth, she no longer attends school. They currently live in an old house with iron sheet and a walls made of Mud and Wattle in Mugusu Sub county, Kabarole district.
While non of them remembered when their father died however, Betty was quick to recall when her mother died in 2004 at 40 years due to HIV/AIDS.
From the day, she assumed the role of a household head looking after her siblings.
They have two meals a day when they can afford. That is Breakfast and supper. Their main diet is Matooke (banana) cassave, sweet potatoes, beans and ground nuts.
The sponsorship costs around US $180 per month for the 5 children. I currently pay this myself and am creating a range of items such as shirts and bags to sell to raise funds to help support these children as i currently sponsor 2 other children in addition to the 5 above.

September Update: New Photographs: as below
Moses from Joy for Children report:
1) Visited Betty’s Family, had a meeting with them and took picture.
I reached Betty’s on home on Tuesday September 16, 2009 at around 7:45 am. I found Peter in the garden near the house, while the rest where still in bed. Naume has malaria then Isaac lacked scholastic material. I discussed with Betty and Peter on the possibility of going back to school, which they accepted.
